Fleece is such an easy fabric to work with. It’s warm, soft, and washes well, which makes it a great fabric to make a blanket with. Instead of making the no-sew tie blankets that are floating around bloggy land, we thought it would be so much cuter to sew on some pom pom trim like Girl Inspired did on her flannel blanket. You could even try adding ric rac trim, tassels or even making your own yarn pom pom’s to add to the edges. It really gives the blanket that WOW factor! A fleece blanket also makes a great homemade gifts! If you can sew a straight line then you can add pom pom trim to fleece. Everytime the recipient wraps themselves in warmth they’ll think of you. It’s a win/win!
How to Make a Fleece Blanket
Fleece Blanket How-to:
Supplies:
- Fleece fabric, 2 yards (we found ours at JoAnn’s)
- Pom pom trim, 8 yards (don’t forget to use your coupons if shopping at Joann’s or Hobby Lobby)
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
Step 1: Since you had the fabric cut in the store you already have the exact dimensions. (High fives) The only thing you’ll have to do is pin the trim to the edges of the fabric. If you’re careful enough you can skip this part. We used white thread in the bobbin for the under stitch and red for the upper stitch. A simple straight stitch is all you’ll need.
Step 2: We found that it was easiest to put the trim below the fabric when sewing it on. That way you can make sure that the trim is completely covered by the fabric.
Step 3: For the corners, you can every so slightly trim them into rounded corners so that the trim sews on easier.
That’s it! The quickest, most comfortable blanket ready in under an hour. Makes the perfect gift this holiday season or a new accent for your home.
