The Best Way to Freeze Bananas

Up until recently, we threw our ripe bananas in the freezer right in the peel to freeze them. When the time came to use the bananas for smoothies or banana bread, defrosting the bananas took more effort than it was worth, and truthfully, it was pretty nasty. We found that the best way to freeze bananas is to take them OUT of the PEEL, and then freeze them in individual pieces before placing them in one large freezer-safe bag. Here’s how to freeze banana slices so that you can use your ripe banana pieces to quickly and easily make smoothies, ice cream, banana bread, and more!

Best Way to Freeze Bananas

As soon as your bananas are ripe and it doesn’t look like they are going to get eaten, take them out of the peels and slice them up onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the freezer for about an hour. This gives the bananas enough time to freeze enough so that when you combine the slices into one large bag they won’t stick together forming a huge frozen clump.

Place the banana slices into a freezer safe bag (we always use Ziploc® bags) and freeze for future use.
