Easy DIY Deer Costume
Deer Costume How-to:
Materials:
- Brown T-shirt
- Brown Leggings
- Faux White Animal Fur, we found ours at JoAnn’s
- White Felt, 1-2 sheets
- Brown Felt, 1 sheet
- Fabric Glue
- Wire
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 1: Using pencil and paper, sketch an oval at the approximate size you want for the belly. (We didn’t use a template or pattern, we eyeballed it to our liking.) Cut out template and trace on the back side of the faux fur. Cut out fur and glue to the front of the t-shirt using the fabric glue.
Step 2: Using a marker, free hand draw different sizes of oblong circles on the white felt. We did some bigger ones and some smaller ones to fill in the gaps. Cut them out.
Step 3: Turn t-shirt over and lay felt circles out on the back of the shirt in the desired pattern. Once you’ve arranged them in the way you want them then you can glue them down.
How to Make the Tail:
Step 4: To make the tail, we once again free hand sketched our own pattern on a piece of white paper. We cut out the pattern, traced it on the brown felt, and cut out on the felt. You’ll want to make a slightly smaller pattern for the faux fur. We did approximately a 1/4 inch smaller.
Step 5: Using floral wire or what ever small gauge wire you have at home make a loop on the back side of the faux fur like shown above in the picture. Hot glue it to the back of the fur. Once it dries you can hot glue it to the brown felt.
Step 6: Using your hot glue gun you, add glue to the back side bottom portion of the tail. Place the tail on the back center of the bottom hem of the t-shirt. Note: make sure you don’t glue the entire backside of the tail down to the shirt or you won’t be able to move and position the tail.
Antler Materials:
- Headband
- Two Twigs
- Silk flowers
- Brown felt
- White Faux Fur
- Hot Glue Gun
- Floral Wire
Step 1: Using pencil and paper, sketch your own pattern for the approximate size you want for the ears. (We didn’t use a template or pattern, we eyeballed it to our liking.) Cut out template and trace twice on the brown felt. Cut out two small ovals of fur for the center of the ear.
Step 2: Cut out a triangle shaped notch at the bottom flat end of the ears.
Step 3: Add hot glue to one side of the notch.
Step 4: Gently, overlap the notch to cover the glue.
Step 5: Hot glue a piece of wire, approximately 4 inches long to the ear.
Step 6: Hot glue the fur on top of the wire so that it is covered. Wrap the wire from the ear around the headband to secure it. Once you have the ear where you would like it you can hot glue on top of the wrapped wire to permanently secure it.
Step 7: Hot glue the antler (twigs) to the headband. We also used wire to wrap around the base of the twig and the headband to make sure it was extra secure. You can hot glue on top of the wire too.
Step 8: Last, hot glue the silk flowers in between the antlers and ears. Voila!
That’s it! So easy, right?
