If there’s an easy way to clean something we are all over the idea. Seriously! Who wants to spend lots of time cleaning when there are so many other ways to be spending your time? We’ve seen several methods on Pinterest using salt, a magic eraser, and even vinegar but not all of them really work. This cleaning trick to remove grime and build up from an iron is tried and true. So, if you’re thinking you need to replace your iron because it looks as awful as this one hold off. It can be saved. Really! Here’s the best trick to clean your iron. Clean an iron is seriously easy as 1-2-3.
How to Clean an Iron
Yes, this iron was that dirty! It’s a little embarrassing to admit because it’s hidden away in the laundry room. Who see’s it? The red addition is from a Halloween costume (the heat was a tad too high for the fabric).
Clean an Iron Step by Step:
- Aluminum Foil
- Bar Keepers Friend Spray + Foam Cleaner
Note: This iron bottom is stainless steel so the aluminum foil won’t harm it. I would NOT recommend using it on a non-stick iron bottom.
Cut a sheet of aluminum foil, about 2 feet long. Wad the foil into a ball. Voila! You have an instant scrubbing pad.
Begin to scrub the grime off of the bottom of the iron. You can see that just the aluminum foil was already doing the trick. Because the build up was so horrendous on this iron the Bar Keeper’s foam cleaner helped clean off the remainder.
Can you believe it? It’s a miracle that it got this clean!
