5 Tips for Dating in the Digital Age

Now that some of our kids are old enough to start dating, we’ve had to have some serious conversations about dating in the digital age. It’s a whole new ball game, and although we don’t claim to be experts as we’ve never actively dated in this new environment (we are old married folk), we can offer tips for dating that seem intuitive for those of us that didn’t date while clutching a hand-held device!

Tip #1: Go on a Date!

Actually go out on a date. Meet face-to-face and do something together! Get to know each other outside of your phones. Dates do not have to be expensive! Go on a hike. Meet at the library and swap your favorite books. Plan a picnic follow it up with a movie in the park. There are so many out-of the box date ideas that don’t cost any money, or very little! Give one a try!

Tip #2: Make Eye Contact

Look at your date! Give him or her your undivided attention. It’s only polite, and if they’ve taken the time out of their life to take you out on a date, extend them the courtesy of looking them in the eye. If the chemistry isn’t there, that’s OK! You can still have a great time together without your noses in your phone! Leave your phone in your pocket or in your purse. You don’t need to have it in your hand or on the table during your date!

Tip #3: Give them a Chance

Give your date a chance. It seems like this digital age of dating has fostered this attitude of “the grass is greener somewhere else”. Don’t fall into that trap. Anyone can make their image, life, and personality seem a lot more exciting and interesting than it actually is online!

Tip #4: Don’t Just Text

Don’t rely on texting as your only mode of communication. I remember how fluttery my stomach used to get when someone I had a crush on called me! Do the same. Call your date and actually talk. Also, texting tends to foster this false sense of familiarity that’s usually just not appropriate in the early stages of a relationship.

Tip #5: Meet Your Dates Off-line

Try meeting  your dates in real-life situations, not online. Us old-folk did it, I promise, you can too! The nice thing about looking for people you might be interested in dating in person is that the person you meet is much more likely to be who you thought they were, and not an online fabrication.

Of course, these tips are super general and are not meant to imply to be degrading in any way. We just think that dating should be done with courtesy and caution, and since we are old school, we kind of like that way. {smiling}

Which leads us to talk about the new movie FOREVER MY GIRL which will be released January 19th, 2018. If you love a good romance, you’ve got to put seeing this on your calendar! Forever My Girl is an uplifting romantic film about second chances.

FOREVER MY GIRL is about second chances and finding our way back home. Forever My Girl tells the story of music super-star Liam Page (Alex Roe) who left his bride, Josie (Jessica Rothe), at the altar choosing fame and fortune instead. However, Liam never got over Josie, his one true love, nor did he ever forget his Southern roots in the small community where he was born and raised. When he unexpectedly returns to his hometown for the funeral of his high school best friend, Liam is suddenly faced with the consequences of all that he left behind.  This film is perfect for all of us who believe in courtship, romance, and love enduring all things.  By the way, it also has an amazing music soundtrack that includes hot CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Lauren Alaina, Travis Tritt, and Alex Roe who stars in the film as country star “Liam Page.”
